Carbon Capture Canada 2026 brings global leaders together to advance Canada’s carbon capture opportunities
Two days of collaboration, innovation and critical conversations reinforce the importance of turning policy into execution
EDMONTON, Alberta, Sept. 16, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Carbon Capture Canada 2026 wrapped up today at the Edmonton Convention Centre, bringing together thousands of attendees including government officials, industry leaders, investors, innovators and technology experts from around the world to advance carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).
“Carbon Capture Canada 2026 has been an outstanding success, and the strength of this year’s participation reflects the opportunities ahead for Canada and the global carbon management industry,” said David Ghoris, Vice President, Energy, dmg events. “We’re proud to provide a platform that facilitates meaningful connections and supports the collaboration needed to move projects forward.”
Held September 15 and 16, followed by the Deep Sky Alpha Site Tour on September 17, Carbon Capture Canada 2026 provided a stage for meaningful dialogue, knowledge sharing and partnerships at a critical time for the sector. With major commercial and investment decisions ahead, the event came at a pivotal moment as Canada continues to move carbon management projects from ambition to implementation.
“It’s an exciting time for the development of carbon capture in Alberta, in Canada and around the world,” said Brian Jean, Minister of Energy and Minerals, Government of Alberta. “Events like this, with leaders of industry, play a key role by bringing together groups to discuss opportunities and to chart the course of the future for all of us.”
“Canada has resource expertise and institutions to be a reliable supplier of energy and resource technology to meet our global partners’ needs,” said Frank Des Rosiers, Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Technology Sector, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). “We have companies in Canada developing carbon capture technology, carbon removal solutions, monitoring technologies and highly specialized engineering, and in a world increasingly focused on energy security and diversification of supply chain, this is a very important advantage.”
Throughout the two-day conference and exhibition, attendees explored the conditions required to accelerate project development, including the role of government and industry cooperation, access to capital, regulatory frameworks, shared infrastructure and technological innovation.
“We are very lucky, here in Alberta, where not only do we have a big labour force which truly understands gas processing and compression, but also a lot of other skills that are vital to getting CO₂ out from the air then all the way underground,” said Alex Petre, CEO, Deep Sky. “Right now, we are developing commercial projects across Canada, but what I would like to see is Canada exporting all of this knowledge and knowhow and actually being able to build projects abroad.”
As Canada competes globally for investment and works to establish a competitive carbon management sector, Carbon Capture Canada 2026 underscored the importance of moving beyond discussion toward tangible progress. The conference explored the commercial realities of deploying CCUS at scale, including the need for investable projects, supportive policy and regulatory certainty, and alliances across government, industry and financial institutions.
“Canada stands as one of the world’s leading nations in Carbon Capture Storage and Carbon Capture Utilization Storage deployment,” said Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Special, Special Advisor to the President of The Republic of Indonesia for Energy, Government of Indonesia. “It presents an opportunity to become a strategic partner in supporting Indonesia’s emerging implementation, alongside capacity building programs. Collaborating with Canada to unlock opportunities for CCS and CCUS in Indonesia is very important for our country and on a global scale.”
Beyond the strategic conference, attendees had opportunities to connect through the exhibition floor, technical sessions, interactive Knowledge Bars, executive roundtables and networking events. These opportunities fostered the exchange of practical insights, showcased innovation and strengthened relationships across Canada’s growing CCUS ecosystem.
The event also recognized excellence and innovation across the sector through the Carbon Capture Canada Awards, celebrating the work being undertaken in Canada and internationally to advance carbon management.
Carbon Capture Canada continues to serve as a meeting place for the people and organizations working to shape the future of CCUS. The conversations and connections made in Edmonton will help inform the next steps in advancing projects, strengthening partnerships and supporting the continued growth of the sector.
Carbon Capture Canada will return to Edmonton on September 14–15, 2027. More information about Carbon Capture Canada 2027 is available at carbonexpocanada.com.
